Mercy Watson

KATE DICAMILLO

This series is about a pig named Mercy who lives with her human parents. She gets treated like she is a human baby and loves eating hot buttered toast. She gets into all sorts of trouble but often ends up saving the day as well. She lives next to a pair of sisters and manages to win the favour and affection of the younger one (Baby), while the older one (Eugena), remains sceptical of Mercy and prefers to keep her distance. This is an entertaining book for kids to read themselves or for parents to read with their kids, and it is guaranteed to have you laughing. The illustrations are the best, especially the ones of Mercy sitting by the pool on a lounger drinking lemonade. I have read other books by this author, including Flora and Ulysses, and I wasn’t a huge fan till I read Mercy Watson's books.
