I started reading a lot of realistic fiction these last few years, and I really enjoyed it. Despite their popularity, I do have an aversion to romance novels (barring a few) because they are boring and predictable. The books on this list have very diverse themes and geographical locations; some deal with sensitive topics, such as Purple Hibiscus and The Apple Tart of Hope.
