Truly Peculiar: The Economist Explains

Edited by Tom Standage

If I'm being honest, this may be one of the first non-fiction books I have read, that isn’t a biography. This book is a collection of essays, each answering a different question in an essay form. Some of these are bizarre or funny.  For example I found the funniest one, “Are overweight politicians less trustworthy?”  There are also serious ones like, “Why has civil war returned to Ethiopia?”

This is a really interesting book and a lot of the essays break down casual questions about economics, geopolitics or the impact of sports into short chapters with interesting graphs and data.

I would definitely recommend this book for people who are into economics as a subject. It's also great for expanding your general knowledge. I would not recommend reading this book all in one go, as it can get a little heavy. It's a good book to read along with a light fiction book on the side. (That's what I did!)
