This is a recently released add-on book to the Inheritance Games series. It is possible to read this book without reading the series, but watch out for spoilers if you intend to read the whole series!
This book is written from the dual perspectives of Grayson and Jameson Hawthorne. The story is different for each brother.
In Jameson's POV, he meets his father, who finally reaches out to him for a favour. He wants Jameson to join a highly exclusive, secret gambling club in London in order to win back Vantage, his ancestral home, which he lost there. To do this, Avery and Jameson first have to get invited to the club, then get invited to an even more exclusive competition called “The Game”. In The Game, 5 players compete to win any item lost to the house that year. They have to win this game to get Vantage back.
In Grayson's POV, he goes to Phoenix after realising that his half sister Gigi was arrested. After realising that his sisters were looking into their father’s disappearance, he decides to stay to sabotage this investigation to protect Avery. He soon finds that there was more to Sheffield Grayson (his father) than he expected.
I liked the format of this book, since the original series is written from Avery's perspective and we don't get to learn much about the Hawthorne family before Avery's arrival. It was also fun to see the bond between the four brothers, which is much more prominent in this book. I also appreciated the short chapters, as it made the book easier to read and understand the two perspectives. The flashbacks to the boys' childhoods were good, they were less filtered and sugar coated than in the original series.
The characters in this entire series are very complex and it was nice to see another side to them in this book. I also enjoyed reading Jameson’s and Grayson’s views on Avery, which do not come out very prominently in the series.
Overall I loved this book, though I also didn't like that it ended with a cliffhanger. I really hope that there will be another book out soon!
