This month I am visiting my cousins. Zephyr is one of our guest reviewers this month. Coincidentally, his most recent read fits into this month's theme of mystery stories.
I really like Rick Riodan and I have read most of his books. This series is called "The 39 Clues". This series is different from his other books because it contains no mythology, and is centered around a family feud.
When their grandmother dies, Amy and Dan are given a choice. They can either receive 2 million dollars, or a clue that could lead to the most powerful thing in this world. The journey to the clue could be dangerous because their family is really crazy. For example, they try to shoot Amy and Dan with poisonous darts.
Amy and Dan, along with their au pair Nellie, travel around the world looking for the 39 clues. Amy and Dan's parents died just after Dan was born. At certain points in the book Amy and Dan feel conflicted with whether to find out what happened to their parents, or to continue to look for the 39 clues. By the end of the first book, they find the answer to two clues. As the series progresses they come closer and closer.
I think this series is great and I recommend this for ages 8-10. Some of the books also come in a graphic novel format, but I preferred reading the series in its original form.
