This is an all-time favourite for many kids. It is a series of books based on a mouse named Geronimo Stilton who lives life as the publisher of 'The Rodents Gazette.' These books are humorous and a great light read for kids. Many people would discourage their kids from reading these because they do not think this is good literature. Parents may also feel that the strange lettering and graphic novel are not the right "first chapter book" for their kids to read. I'm afraid I have to disagree. It's a lot of fun to read, especially for kids until 9. Although they make up new spellings for some words, for instance, "Famouse", these are all puns related to mice, and it is obvious to older kids that those aren't the real version of words. I recommend that parents let their kids read these books as they are entertaining and funny and also spark a streak of creativity. One of the more educational sets of books in this series is the Journey Through Time series, which starts from the time of the dinosaurs and goes through various periods in history.
