This is a new release from Holly Jackson. She is the author of the series, “A Good Girl's Guide to Murder”. This series is one of my favourite murder mysteries. While The Reappearance of Rachel Price is not related to any of Holly Jackson’s other books, it shares a similar writing style when it comes to unfolding the plot.
The book tells the story of a girl named Bel, whose mother had disappeared 16 years ago. The book starts off telling us about a true crime documentary that is being shot about the mysterious disappearance of Bel’s mother, Rachel Price. While the documentary is being shot, Rachel Price makes her way back home, claiming to have been kept in an unknown man’s basement for 16 years. While the police search for the man who took Rachel, her family seems to doubt her story and is struggling to adjust to her reappearance.
I really enjoyed this book. It has a series of plot twists that make it really difficult to guess the ending. Unlike an Agatha Christie novel where the detective explains the mystery at the end, in this book you experience the mystery unfolding along with the characters. This helps make it more engaging and fun to read. The last 50 pages have plot twists that are kind of messed up, but unfortunately I can not discuss them without revealing the ending.
