Kill Joy

This is the prequel to ‘A Good Girl's Guide To Murder’. You can read this book without having read the ‘A Good Girl's Guide To Murder’ series. This book tells the story of Pip, a high school student who is attending her best friend's murder mystery party. Through the course of the book, we get to see Pip and her friends trying to solve the mystery, while acting like they are in the 1920’s.

I really liked this book because it has a lot of humour and is far more casual than a regular murder mystery, because no one actually dies. It also provides more of an insight into Pip’s character and lets us see her engaging with her friends. This contrasts with the other three books in the series. I would recommend this to 11-12 year olds, who are not yet old enough to read ‘A Good Girl's Guide To Murder’. It is a good stepping stone to reading other murder mysteries. The book is very small and easy to get through, so it is also good for reluctant readers.
